Dancing to the tunes of Slumdog Millionaire has become a craze at many fitness and dance schools across the US.
Since early December 2008, Sreehari Gopalakrishnan has applied to 176 firms, and the rate of call back has steadily declined. "Earlier, it used to be from 20 to 30 places but now it is less than 10 per cent", says Gopalakrishnan, an analyst with a firm in Connecticut that does relocation management. With the current economic downturn and the housing slump, his company has several houses in its inventory worth millions of dollars.
Bollywood impresario Vijay Taneja was sentenced to 84 months in jail followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $33 million in restitution to four financial organisations, on charges of money laundering. Taneja, under the banner of Elite Entertainment, has been promoting Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai for shows across the United States.
"By calling it India's 9/11 and taking military action against Pakistan we will follow the path that the United States took post 9/11. Racial profiling and loss of innocent lives as a result of 'war on terror' is not the solution to the problem that India has at hand," said Oza Rupal, Women's Studies professor at Hunter College in New York City.
